Lane’s End stallion and 2006 leading sire A.P. Indy reached a historic milestone on Saturday when A. P. Arrow won the Skip Away Handicap (G3) at Gulfstream Park to become his 100th career stakes winner.

The 18-year-old Seattle Slew horse stands at William S. Farish’s Lane’s End in Versailles for $300,000. He began his career at stud in 1993 at Lane’s End, where he stood his first season for $50,000 after two outstanding seasons on the track.

A.P. Indy has lived up to high expectations at stud, siring 2003 Horse of the Year Mineshaft, 2006 champion three-year-old male Bernardini, 2001 champion two-year-old filly Tempera, 2006 Canadian two-year-old filly Catch the Thrill, and United Arab Emirates 2001 Horse of the Year Festival of Light among 60 group or graded stakes winners.

A.P. Indy has also sired Grade 1 winners and sires Golden Missile, Aptitude, and Stephen Got Even.

From 870 foals in 12 crops of racing age, A. P. Indy has sired 423 winners from 599 starters that have earned $81,808,814

A. P. Indy won three of four starts as a juvenile, capping his two-year-old campaign with a win in the Hollywood Futurity (G1).

A.P. Indy won the San Rafael Stakes (G2), Santa Anita Derby (G1), Peter Pan Stakes (G2), and Belmont Stakes (G1) as a three-year-old in 1992 before closing out his career with a two-length win against older horses in that year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Gulfstream Park. He subsequently won the Eclipse Award as Horse of the Year and champion three-year-old male, concluding his career with eight win in 11 career starts and earnings of $2,979,815.

Out of multiple Grade 3 winner Weekend Surprise, by Secretariat, A.P. Indy hails from a respected female family and is a half brother to three graded stakes winners, including 1990 Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Summer Squall.
