Andromeda’s Hero to stand at Metropolitan Stud

Grade 3 winner Andromeda’s Hero, runner-up in the 2005 Belmont Stakes (G1), will stand the 2008 season for $6,000 at Michael Lischin’s Dutchess Views Farm/Metropolitan Stud in Pine Plains, New York.

The five-year-old by Fusaichi Pegasus out of the winning Storm Bird mare Marozia, stood his initial season last year for $12,500 at Richland Hills in Midway, Kentucky.

Andromeda’s Hero is standing under the co-management of Questroyal Stallions.

Campaigned by Robert LaPenta, Andromeda’s Hero won four of 25 starts, including the 2005 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs en route to a third-place finish in the Arkansas Derby (G2) at Oaklawn Park. He was unplaced in the Kentucky Derby (G1) in his subsequent start, then finished second to Afleet Alex in the Belmont Stakes. He wrapped up his sophomore campaign by winning the Fred W. Hooper Handicap (G3) at Calder Race Course.

As a four-year-old, Andromeda’s Hero finished third in the Donn (G1) and Suburban (G1) Handicaps and the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) for trainer Nick Zito. He earned $836,961 over three seasons.

A full brother to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Superfly, Andromeda’s Hero hails from the same female family as Grade 1 winner and freshman sire Whywhywhy.
