S’morluc is first career winner for Morluc

S’morluc split horses and drove clear in his third career start to post a two-length score on Saturday at Hawthorne Race Course and become the first career winner for graded stakes winner Morluc.

Trained by Michael Reavis for owner-breeder Michael Cloonan, S’morluc completed the six-furlong maiden special weight race in 1:12.90 under jockey Timothy Thornton. Illinois-bred S’morluc is out of the placed Silver Deputy mare My Sweet Eva.

Morluc, an 11-year-old by Housebuster out of Grade 3-placed multiple stakes winner Flashing Eyes, has 17 two-year-olds in his first crop.

Morluc won 11 of 40 career starts in six seasons, including five stakes wins, and set course records for five furlongs at Churchill Downs and six furlongs at Kentucky Downs. He earned $1,045,758.

Morluc won the 2001 Aegon Turf Sprint Stakes (G3) at Churchill, and finished second in the '01 Hong Kong Sprint (HK-G2) and the ’00 edition of the race.
