Tiznow to stand first season for $30,000

Posted: Friday, November 30, 2001

Horse of the Year and two-time Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Tiznow will stand his initial season for $30,000 at Kenny Troutt's and Bill Casner's WinStar Farm near Versailles, Kentucky. The four-year-old son of Cee's Tizzy out of the Seattle Song mare Cee's Song was retired shortly after his second Classic victory on October 27 at Belmont Park and will stand as the property of WinStar, Taylor Made Stallions, and Cees Stable's Michael Cooper, Pamela Ziebarth, and Kevin Cochrane.

The $30,000 fee is the second most expensive of any first-year stallion in 2002, behind only dual classic winner and fellow Horse of the Year candidate Point Given's $125,000 fee.

Bred in California by the late Cecilia Straub Rubens, Tiznow won eight of 15 career starts with four seconds and two thirds and earned $6,427. He captured four Grade 1 events during his career, including back-to-back Classic victories, the 2001 Santa Anita Handicap (G1), and the 2000 Super Derby (G1). He also won last year's Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (G2) and Affirmed Handicap (G3) and this season's San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes (G2).

Tiznow is one of four winners produced by Cee's Song, who is also the dam of multiple Grade 2 winner and $2,840,810-earner Budroyale.—Tom Law
