The Prime Minister moved to Weston Ward

Posted: Thursday, November 29, 2001

Veteran Texas stallion and graded stakes winner The Prime Minister has been relocated within the state to stand the 2002 season at Dr. Jim Ward's and Charles Weston's Weston Ward Thoroughbreds at Straus Medina Ranch near San Antonio.

The 14-year-old son of Deputy Minister out of Stick to Beauty, by Illustrious, will stand for $2,500. The Prime Minister stood the 2001 season at Woodswitch Farm near Navasota after standing the previous three seasons at McDermott Ranch near Waller. He stood from 1993 to '97 at Fred Seitz's Brookdale Farm near Versailles, Kentucky.

With six crops of racing age, The Prime Minister has sired eight stakes winners, including Grade 3 winners Prime Meridian and Kentucky Kaper, and stakes winner and $273,849 earner Czarina Kate. Prime Meridian won the 1998 California Derby (G3) and has lifetime earnings of $258,265, while Kentucky Kaper captured the '97 Senorita Stakes (G3).

The Prime Minister is also the sire of stakes winners Sweet Minister, Secretariada, Hollyhoney, Biggen, and Bingo Prize. He has 92 individual winners from 151 starters for lifetime progeny earnings of $4,333,742 through Wednesday.

A half brother to champion Gold Beauty and a full brother to stakes winner Miraloma, The Prime Minister won five of eight career starts, including the 1991 Goodwood Handicap (G2) at Santa Anita Park, and earned $257,000.—Tom Law
