Classic winner Mutafaweq to stand in England

Posted: Tuesday, November 27, 2001

Godolphin Racing's Mutafaweq, whose victories include the 1999 St. Leger (Eng-G1) at Doncaster, has been retired and will begin his stallion career at Wood Farm Stud in Shropshire, England in 2002. His stud fee has been set at approximately $3,500.In 19 career starts, Mutafaweq recorded seven wins, one second, and one third and earned $1,800,801. In addition to the St. Leger, the five-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Silver Hawk was victorious in the 2001 Coronation Cup (Eng-G1) at Epsom, 2000 Deutschland-Preis (Ger-G1) at Dusseldorf, Canadian International Stakes (Can-G1) at Woodbine, and 1999 King Edward VII Stakes (Eng-G2) at Ascot. Mutafaweq was highweighted on the 1999 European and English Free Handicaps at 14 furlongs and up and also was highweighted on the 2000 German Free Handicap from 11 to 14 furlongs.

"It's very exciting to get such a good-looking horse who will appeal to all types of breeders," Bill Bromley, owner of Wood Farm, told Racing Post. "There is a shortage of first-season sires around in Britain this year and I think we've set him at a very favorable price for breeders."

Bred by Muirfield Ventures and Jayeff B Stables, Mutafaweq was produced by the multiple stakes-winning Caerleon mare The Caretaker (Ire), who was highweighted juvenile filly on the 1989 Irish Free Handicap. Mutafaweq is a half brother to Grade 3 stakes winner Go Honey Go (Ire) and stakes winner Feathers Lad (Ire).
