Freshman sire Ghost Ranch gains first winner

Posted: Wednesday, November 07, 2001

New Mexico-based freshman stallion Ghost Ranch was represented by his first winner on Monday when Jan Bowers' and Bruce Dunmore's Espeedytoo won a $7,900 maiden special weight race at Sunray Park in her fourth career start.

The two-year-old filly out of Hot Pad, by Staunch Avenger, won the 4 ½-furlong event by 1 ½ lengths in :51.20. Trained by Robert Bowers, Espeedytoo has one win and one third in four career starts and has earned $6,055.

Ghost Ranch, a seven-year-old son of Gone West out of the Silent Screen mare Seen and Silent, stands privately at Robert Bowers Ranch near Albuquerque, New Mexico. A $575,000 purchase by Dorothy Scharbauer at the 1995 Keeneland September yearling sale, Ghost Ranch finished second once in two career starts and earned $7,400.

Ghost Ranch is a half brother to seven winners produced by Seen and Silent, who has also produced stakes winners Wavering Scene and Flicker Queen, the dam of Canadian classic winner Stephanotis.
