El Corredor retired to Hill 'n' Dale

Posted: Wednesday, November 07, 2001

Grade 1 winner El Corredor has arrived at Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Lexington, where he will stand the 2002 breeding season for a fee of $20,000.

El Corredor, who was retired due to a quarter crack, closed his ten-race career with a 12th-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) at Belmont Park on October 27. He won seven races, including last year's Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) at Aqueduct and the 2000 and '01 renewals of the Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicap (G2), and earned $727,920.

Bred in Kentucky by Needham-Betz Thoroughbreds/Liberation, El Corredor was consigned to the 1998 Keeneland September yearling sale, where he was purchased for $110,000 by trainer Bob Baffert, agent.

"El Corredor is a brilliant miler with the courage of a lion," Baffert said. "This is as fast a horse as I've ever trained."

Out of the Silver Deputy mare Silvery Swan, El Corredor is a half brother to Grade 3 winner Silver Tornado.
