Dual classic winner Galileo to stand for $56,980

Dual European classic winner Galileo (Ire) will stand his initial season at stud next year for approximately $56,980 (50,000 Irish punts) in 2002 at Coolmore Stud near Fethard, County Tipperary, Ireland. A decision has not been announced on whether the three-year-old son of Sadler's Wells eventually will shuttle to the Southern Hemisphere, a common practice for several Coolmore stallions.
Out of multiple European highweight and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1) winner Urban Sea, by Miswaki, Galileo won six of eight career starts for $2,245,373 in earnings. He won his first six career starts, including the Epsom Derby (Eng-G1), Irish Derby (Ire-G1), and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes (Eng-G1).
Galileo lost his final two career starts, finishing second to Fantastic Light in the Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-G1) and sixth in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) in his first effort over dirt.
Coolmore also announced fees for three other first-year stallions, including an initial fee of $34,188 (30,000 Irish punts) for multiple Group 1 winner Mozart (Ire). The three-year-old son of Danehill out of the Spectacular Bid mare Victoria Cross won five of ten lifetime starts and earned $819,900. He won this year's Darley July Cup (Eng-G1) and Nunthorpe Stakes (Eng-G1) and finished second in the Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1).
King Charlemagne, winner of this year's Prix Maurice de Gheest (Fr-G1), will stand his first season for $9,117 (8,000 Irish punts). The three-year-old son of the late Nureyev out of the Grade 1-winning Sunny's Halo mare Race the Wild Wind won five of six career starts and earned $200,211.
Group 2 winner Mull of Kintyre, who was fourth in the 1999 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) won by champion Anees at Gulfstream Park, will stand for $5,698 (5,000 Irish punts). The four-year-old by Danzig out of Retrospective, by Easy Goer, retires with two wins in nine starts and earnings of $224,630.
