Group 1 winner Distant Music to stand in Ireland

Posted: Thursday, November 01, 2001

Distant Music, winner of the 1999 Dewhurst Stakes (Eng-G1) at Newmarket, has been retired and will enter stud in 2002 at Morristown Lattin Stud in County Kildare, Ireland. The four-year-old son of Distant View will stand for approximately $8,541.Distant Music won five of 14 career starts with one second and one third for earnings of $518,921. He will remain the property of owner-breeder Prince Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms.

Distant Music enjoyed his best season at two when he was undefeated in three starts including the Dewhurst and Champagne Stakes (Eng-G2) at Doncaster. He later won the 2000 Park Stakes (Eng-G3) at Doncaster and 2001 Goffs International Stakes (G2) at the Curragh.

"He was the best two-year-old I have trained and had speed to burn," trainer Barry Hills told Racing Post.

Distant Music is out of the Nijinsky II mare Musicanti, who is a half sister to champion Vandlandingham and stakes winners Jenkins Ferry and Popular Tune.
