Oh So Sharp, England's champion filly of 1985, was euthanized at Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Dalham Stud Farms in Newmarket after suffering from complications of laminitis. The daughter of Kris was 19.
Bred in Ireland by Dalham, Oh So Sharp was unbeaten in three starts as a juvenile before launching her championship campaign.
As a three-year-old in 1985 she captured the One Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1), Epsom Oaks (Eng-G1), and St. Leger (Eng-G1) recognized collectively at the England's Filly Triple Crown. She was trained by Henry Cecil and ridden by Steve Cauthen, who called her the best filly he ever rode.
"Though she always had the very best veterinary attention, she was beginning to suffer," Liam O'Rourke, Darley Stud director told Racing Post. "She was humanely destroyed to spare her further pain. She was a lovely mare to have on the farm and after her fantastic racing career, she bred Sheikh Mohammed some excellent horses. We'll miss her much, but we still have her last foal to look forward to."
Out of the Graustark mare Oh So Fair, Oh So Sharp was a half sister to multiple Group 2 winner Roussalka (GB).
From eight starters, Oh So Sharp produced seven winners including Group 1 winner Rosefinch and Grade 2 winner Shaima. Her last foal is a weanling colt by Danehill.
