Group 1 winner San Luis to stand at Highview Stud in New Zealand

Posted: Friday, December 21, 2001

Australian Group 1 winner San Luis will begin his stallion career at Highview Stud in Hamilton, New Zealand, after suffering a career-ending tendon injury while finishing second in the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas (NZ-G1) at Riccarton Park on November 14.

The three-year-old Australian-bred son of the Danehill stallion Flying Spur will stand as the property of Highview and Rob McAnulty, Peter and Joan Egan, Geoff Levick Graeme Hunt, and Gordon Calder.

"He was never fully tapped as a racehorse," trainer Chris McNab said. "We didn't see the best of him on the racetrack as I believed the horse had a huge future ahead of him."

San Luis retires with two victories, including the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes (NZ-G1), and earnings of $43,551 in six starts. He was produced by Australian Group 3 winner Star Style Girl, by Without Fear.
