Coolmore sends Victory Speech to Japan

Freshman sire and Grade 1 winner Victory Speech will not stand the 2002 season as expected at Coolmore's Ashford Stud near Versailles, Kentucky, but will instead stand at East Stud on the island of Hokkaido in Japan.Coolmore has sent its stallions to Japan in the past, including French and Irish highweight and 1997 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) winner Spinning World and multiple graded stakes winner Hennessy, sire of Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Johannesburg.

Victory Speech, an eight-year-old New York-bred son of Deputy Minister out of Ida's Image, by Alydar, stood the 2001 season for $7,500. He has previously advertised to stand the 2002 season at Ashford for $5,000.

Victory Speech has sired six winners from his first 28 starters, including stakes-placed winner Winning Talk and $71,311-earner Recite. He has lifetime progeny earnings of $197,112 through Thursday.

During his three seasons on the racetrack, Victory Speech won nine of 27 career starts, including the 1997 Strub Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park, the Swaps Stakes (G2) at Hollywood Park, and the Dwyer Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park, and earned $1,289,020
