Shuttle stallion General Monash dead

Group 2 winner General Monash, who for the past two years shuttled between Ireland and Australia, was fatally injured in an undetermined paddock accident at Lindsay Park Stud on Sunday in Angaston, South Australia.The nine-year-old son of Thorn Dance out of Zummerudd (Ire), by Habitat had stood during the Northern Hemisphere season at Ballyhane Stud near Carlow, Ireland.

A half brother to European classic winner King of Kings (Ire) and stakes winner Amethyst (Ire), General Monash has sired a total of 29 winners from 70 starters in his first two crops. He has yet to sire a stakes winner but is represented by multiple group-placed winner Bram Stoker and stakes-placed winner Ash Moon.

Winner of the 1994 Prix Robert Papin (Fr-G2), General Monash won five of 15 career starts for $121,764 in earnings.

General Monash retired to stud in Ireland in 1997 and first shuttled to Lindsay Park, the stud founded and made famous by the late Colin Hayes, in 2000.—Delamere Usher
