Leading Western Australia stallion Serheed dead

Five-time leading Western Australian stallion Serheed, who sired multiple Group 1 winner Northerly, was euthanized last week due to complications arising from an injured hoof.

The 21-year-old son of Nijinsky II out of Native Partner, by Raise a Native, had raced in England during his racing career for owner Prince Fahd Salman.

With books seldom exceeding 55 mares, Serheed was a successful Western Australia stallion and sired 20 stakes winners during his career for progeny earnings of $7,241,277 through Sunday.

Northerly, winner of the 2001 Cox Plate (Aus-G1) and Australian Cup (Aus-G1), has won 11 of 17 career starts for $1,720,179 during his career.

Serheed is also the sire of Kim Angel, winner of the 1998 WATC Derby (Aus-G1) and multiple stakes winner in Singapore; and Beau Heed, winner of the '96 C. B. Cox Stakes (Aus-G2) and earner of $408,454.—Delamere Usher
