Three freshmen gain first winners

Freshmen sires Brooklyn Nick, Live at the Half, and Mesopatamia were recently represented by their first winners.

Brookyln Nick, runner-up in the 1997 Remsen Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct, gained his first winner when Liveitupnow won a maiden special weight race at Aqueduct on November 30. The two-year-old filly is owned by Paraneck Stable and is trained by Dick Lundy.

Brooklyn Nick won two of 24 career starts and earned $109,409. The son of Danzig out of Nervous Baba, by Raja Baba, died last year at age five and has three foals in his initial crop. He stood at Center Brook Farm near Climax, New York.

Savanna's Folley gave her sire, Live At the Half his first winner when she romped to a 7 ½-length victory in a $6,250 maiden claiming race on December 2at Portland Meadows. Trainer David Runyon co-owns the two-year-old filly with Patricia Runyon.

Live At the Half won nine of 55 career starts, including the 1996 Menlo Park Stakes at Bay Meadows, for earnings of $85,859. The eight-year-old son of Gate Dancer out of Day and a Half, by Time Test, has ten foals in his first crop. He previously stood at Windy Ridge Farm near Washougal, Washington.

Mesopotamia gained his first winner on November 30 when his two-year-old daughter Meseta was victorious in a $7,500 maiden claiming event at Penn National Race Course. She is owned by Seymour Cohn and is trained by Bruce Kravets.

Mesopotamia won once in eight starts for $35,650 in earnings. The eight-year-old son of Deputy Minister out of Mesappiano, by Fappiano, stands at Highcliff Farm near Delanson, New York. He has 29 foals in his first crop.
