Group 1 winner Beckett to stand in Ireland

Michael Tabor's and Susan Magnier's Group 1 winner Beckett has been retired and will stand his first season in 2002 at Tally-Ho Stud in County Westmeath, Ireland.

The three-year-old son of Fairy King out of the Groom Dancer mare Groom Order is due to arrive at Tally-Ho next week and will stand his initial season for approximately $4,050 (3,500 Irish punts).

Purchased by Irish bloodstock agent Demi O'Byrne for $2,942,930 at the 1999 Tattersalls Ltd. Houghton yearling sales, Beckett won three of six career starts and earned $173,876. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Beckett won two of three starts as a two-year-old, including the Aga Khan Studs National Stakes (Ire-G1) at the Curragh in September 2000.

Beckett was sidelined for a year before returning to finish second by a head to Magic Cove in the Aga Khan Studs Solonaway Stakes at the Curragh on September 16. He closed his career with a victory in the Joel Stakes and a tenth-place finish in the Champion Stakes (Eng-G1), both at Newmarket.
