Ireland's Rathbarry adds Lear Spear to roster

Multiple group stakes winner Lear Spear, who made only one start this season, will enter stud in 2002 at Rathbarry Stud in County Cork, Ireland. The six-year-old son of Lear Fan out of Golden Gorse, by His Majesty, will stand for $2,240.

Bred in Kentucky by Juan Carlos Bago, Lear Spear's biggest win came in the 1999 Prince of Wales's Stakes (Eng-G2). He also won that year's Diomed Stakes (Eng-G3) and the Select Stakes (Eng-G3).

Lear Spear was third in the 2000 Juddmonte International Stakes (Eng-G1) behind Giant's Causeway and fellow Irish-bred Kalanisi.

Rathbarry's sister operation Glenview Farm in County Cork plans to stand Group/Grade 2 winner Blueprint (Ire), who was retired earlier this fall after a successful stint in the United States.

The six-year-old son of Generous out of Highbrow, by Shirley Heights, will stand his first season for $1,792.

Blueprint won seven of 17 career starts, including the 2000 Jockey Club Stakes (Eng-G2), for $563,947 in earnings.
