Careless Jewel, Zensational turn in bullet workouts

Gearing up for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1), Alabama Stakes (G1) winner Careless Jewel covered six furlongs handily in a bullet 1:11.20 on Tuesday in her first workout at Santa Anita Park.

The Tapit filly had the fastest time among seven horses at the distance during Tuesday’s training session. Two of the other six horses were Grade 1 winners Lookin At Lucky and Richard’s Kid for trainer Bob Baffert.

Lookin At Lucky, the probable favorite for the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), covered six panels handily in 1:12.40. Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) winner Richard’s Kid was timed in 1:12.80 as he prepares for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

Careless Jewel will carry five straight wins into the Ladies’ Classic, the most recent coming in the Fitz Dixon Cotillion Stakes (G2) on October 3 at Philadelphia Park. She rumbled to an 11-length win in the Alabama on August 22 at Saratoga Race Course.

Also Tuesday morning, Zensational, the probable Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) favorite, zipped four furlongs in a bullet :46.80 handily for Baffert. It was the fastest of 14 timed workouts at the distance.
