Colonel John will train up to the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), a 63-day break from his victory in the Travers Stakes (G1) on August 23.
"He's had his prep," said co-owner and breeder Bill Casner who owns WinStar Farm with Kenny Troutt.
Trainer Eoin Harty had originally listed the Super Derby (G2) on September 20 at Louisiana Downs and Goodwood Stakes (G1) on September 27 at Santa Anita Park as options for Colonel John.
"He came out of the [Travers] fine, but he puts a lot into his races, and I think if we run him in the Goodwood he might bounce in the Classic," Harty said.
Trainer Eoin Harty after Colonel John's impressive victory in the Travers Stakes Presented by Shadwell Farm (G1) on August 23 at Saratoga Race Course:
"Right now, Colonel John has got to be among the top tier. He has to be right up there with Big Brown, but that's for the experts to decide. I still think we'll meet each other in the Breeders' Cup [Classic (G1)]."
