Sixth in Woodward S. (G1) on Sept. 1 at Saratoga
Wanderin Boy opened his 2007 campaign with a wire-to-wire win in the Alysheba Stakes (G3) on May 4 at Churchill Downs, but has been winless in three Grade 1 events since that victory.
A confirmed front runner, his best losing performance this year came in the 1 1/8-mile Whitney Handicap (G1) on July 28 at Saratoga Race Course when he finished second, unable to hold off a masterful performance by Lawyer Ron.
Most recently seventh in the Woodward Stakes (G1) on September 1, he was well back of another Lawyer Ron exhibition, but with the Breeders' Cup coming just shy of two months after that race the time off should benefit the six-year-old.
Although Wanderin Boy can carry his speed and has won up to 1 1/8-miles, the Breeders' Cup Classic Powered by Dodge (G1) at 1 1/4-miles might be asking too much of the Seeking the Gold colt, particularly considering the quality of a field that is expected to include Lawyer Ron. The Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile would seem to be a more logical choice, but if Monmouth Park's advance billing as a haven for speed holds true for the Breeders' Cup, Wanderin Boy is capable of a big and possibly surprising performance.
