Contender Status
Canadian-based Bear Now races primarily at Woodbine with occasional forays into the United States, and her most recent trip to the U.S. put her on the road to the Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).
After Bear Now won Woodbine's Duchess Stakes on August 11 trainer Reade Baker sent the Tiznow filly to Philadelphia Park where she led wire-to-wire to win the 1 1/16-mile Fitz Dixon Cotillion Handicap (G2) on September 22.
In winning the Fitz Dixon Cotillion Bear Now defeated two-time Grade 1 winner Octave, who simply couldn't catch Bear Now and finished second, beaten two lengths.
Bear Now and Octave, neither of which have ever raced at Monmouth Park, will match up again in the Breeders' Cup Distaff.
