Contender Status

Four-year-old Miss Macy Sue opened her season with four consecutive stakes wins, including her first career graded stakes victory in the Winning Colors Stakes (G3) on May 28 at Churchill Downs. The Trippi filly also earned wins at Prairie Meadows in the Prairie Rose Stakes on April 28 and the Saylorville Stakes on June 29 and won the Carousel Stakes on March 31 at Oaklawn Park.

Family commitments prevented owners Dennis Albaugh and William Gessman from making the trip to Presque Isle Downs for the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stake. The co-owners instead joined trainer Kelly Von Hemel's wife, Pam, and watched the race at Prairie Meadows Racetrack.

"It was almost like she was running there," Von Hemel said. "They said it was so loud."

Von Hemel is pointing Miss Macy Sue toward the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on October 26 at Monmouth Park.

"I think she's earned it," Von Hemel said. "There's fillies that are very nice. We think we fit in good with them and we want to go find out if we can."
