Won Beldame S. (G1) on Sept. 30 at Belmont
Last year, Unbridled Belle faced some very stiff competition in the form of division rivals such as Pine Island, Lemons Forever, Teammate, and Wonder Lady Anne L.
It was the kind of seasoning that has made her a more formidable foe this year, winning the Delaware Handicap (G2) aas well as finishing second to Miss Shop in the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) at Saratoga.
Miss Shop probably ran the best race of her career in the Personal Ensign to deny the late-closing Unbridled Belle her bid for Grade 1 glory, but the Broken Vow filly remedied that shortcoming in the Beldame Stakes (G1) on September 30 at Belmont Park in which she defeated Indian Vale, Ginger Punch, Balance, and Miss Shop.
Indian Vale, like Unbridled Belle, is trained by Todd Pletcher, and only a head separated the two at the end of the Beldame.
"It's unfortunate that sometimes you have to run them together, but it was the right thing for both fillies and both owners," Pletcher said. "I think they both ran well enough to go forward."
Unbridled Belle will have no problem getting into the Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1), the Beldame victory guaranteed her a spot as the race was part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" series.
