Contender Status

In ten career starts Lady Joanne has never finished off the board, winning six of those races.

Going into the Alabama Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course on August 18 she already had wins in a Grade 2 and Grade 3, and she completed her Trifecta with a stirring Grade 1 neck victory over Lear's Princess in the Alabama.

"She just keeps stepping forward every race," winning trainer Carl Nafzger said after the Alabama. "This was the kind of race she was supposed to step forward like she did. The way we're going now, we'll definitely go to the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1)."

Nafzger selected the Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1) at Keeneland Race Course on October 7 for her final Breeders' Cup prep race and the Orientate filly kept her perfect on-the-board record intact with a second place finish to Panty Raid, falling short of another Grade 1 win by only a half-length.

"They are both doing good. If they weren't doing good, they shouldn't be here."
