My Typhoon (Ire) earned an automatic berth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) with her July 28 victory in the Diana Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.
Her subsequent start at Saratoga was far less rewarding as the 7-to-5 favorite faded to sixth in a field of seven in the August 23 Ballston Spa Handicap (G2).
"She was going well up to the quarter-pole," trainer Bill Mott said after the Ballston Spa. "From there, she lost her hind end a little bit and she slipped. After that, she lost all momentum. I don't know if another horse bumped her, or if she just slipped."
Things didn't go better in the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (G1) on September 29 at Belmont Park as My Typhoon stumbled at the start and never got involved, tiring to eighth of nine.
The Flower Bowl was run at 1 1/4-miles and Mott decided not to accept the automatic berth in the 1 3/8-mile Filly and Mare Turf because of the distance.
The Racing Hall of Fame trainer pre-entered her in both the Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) and the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) where she would face males.
My Typhoon finished sixth in last year's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. She has never raced at Monmouth Park.
