Contender Status

Honey Ryder shows no signs of slowing down as a six-year-old mare as trainer Todd Pletcher looks for a return to the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1). Last year, Honey Ryder finished third in that race, just 2 1/2-lengths back of a brilliant performance by Ouija Board (GB), who secured an Eclipse Award as outstanding turf female.

Although Honey Ryder most recently finished sixth in the Beverly D. at Arlington Park on August 11, her previous race over the Monmouth Park turf course came against males in the United Nations Stakes (G1). She finished second, beaten only one length by English Channel.

Quotable

Trainer Rodd Pletcher, discussing Honey Ryder:

"She is the filly or mare version of English Channel. She's consistent. She handles any type of ground and runs well at a mile and three-eighths to a mile and a half."
